Why Valiant & Bold

Most contractor horror stories start the same way: a handshake, a ballpark number, and nothing on paper. We built this company so that cannot happen.

Every Valiant & Bold job runs on a signed work order. You know the scope, what is excluded, the price and the dates before day one, and every change after that is priced and signed. The same rules hold for every trade on your property.

I

On paper first

Scope, exclusions, price and dates, signed before anyone starts.

II

One standard on site

Every trade cleared with WorkSafeBC, insured, and sober on the tools.

III

Finished properly

A dated deficiency list and a final account within 15 business days.

The Valiant & Bold standard

Six promises,
all in writing.

These are not slogans. They come from the agreements every Valiant & Bold trade signs. Read the full standard.

01

A written work order

Scope, exclusions, price and dates, signed before day one.

02

Changes in writing

Priced and signed, the same day or the next business day.

03

Every trade cleared

WorkSafeBC clearance before they start and before they are paid.

04

Materials counted

Checked in against a register. Extras approved in writing.

05

A sober, safe site

Zero impairment on the tools. Anyone can stop unsafe work.

06

Closed out properly

A dated deficiency list, the holdback, and a final account.

A printed Valiant & Bold work order with scope, exclusions, price, dates and signature lines.

The work order

This is what
you sign.

One document that says what you are getting, what it costs and when it happens. If it is not on the work order, it was not agreed. If it changes, there is a signed change order.

  • Scope, room by room or item by item
  • Exclusions in plain words
  • The price, and what is paid when
  • Start, inspections and completion dates
  • Every trade named, every permit assigned
  • How changes are priced and signed

From first call to final account

Five steps.
No guessing.

A Kelowna homeowner couple reviewing a printed work order with a Valiant & Bold contractor.
  1. 01

    Call or write

Call 778-594-1972 or send the form. Tell us where the job is, what has to be done, and when.

  2. 02

    We walk the job

We look at the site with you, ask what the space has to do, and note what needs a permit.

  3. 03

    You get a work order

Scope, exclusions, price and dates on paper. Read it, ask, change it. Sign when it is right.

  4. 04

    We build it

Trades named and cleared, materials counted, changes signed. You know who is on your property.

  5. 05

    We close it out

A dated deficiency list, inspections passed, and a final account within 15 business days.

A note from the owner

If you are reading this, you are probably about to let someone into your house with a saw.

Every homeowner has heard the same story: a handshake, a ballpark number, and nothing on paper. Then the walls come open, the number moves, and nobody can say what was agreed. Valiant & Bold is built so that story cannot happen on our jobs.

So we write it down. The scope, what is excluded, the price and the dates, before anyone picks up a tool. Every change is priced and signed. Every trade on your property is named, cleared with WorkSafeBC and held to the same rules as my crew.

My name is on every agreement this company signs. Call me, and I will walk the job with you.

Before you hire anyone

Seven things to get
in writing.

From any contractor in Kelowna, including us. If they cannot answer all seven, keep looking.

Read the hiring guide
  1. 1

A written contract with a scope

What is included, what is excluded, the price and the dates. If it is not written, it was not agreed.

  2. 2

    A WorkSafeBC clearance letter

WorkSafeBC issues clearance letters online. Ask for one for the contractor and every trade on your property.

  3. 3

    Proof of liability insurance

Ask for the certificate, and check the dates and the amount.

  4. 4

    Who pulls the permits

Structural, plumbing, electrical and many deck jobs in Kelowna need one. Get the answer in writing.

  5. 5

    How changes are handled

A good answer is a written change order, priced and signed before the extra work is done.

  6. 6

    The holdback

Under the BC Builders Lien Act, the owner holds back 10% of the value of the work. Ask how the contractor handles it.

  7. 7

    Who is on your property

Ask which subcontractors will be on site and who answers for them.

Straight answers

Ask it
straight.

All questions

Is the price fixed?

The price in the work order is the price for the scope in the work order. If the scope changes, the change is priced and signed before it is built.

What happens if something unexpected comes up?

We stop that item, show you, and write a change order. You decide before any extra work is done.

Who will be working on my property?

Our crew and the subcontractors named in the work order. Every trade signs our agreement and gives us a WorkSafeBC clearance letter before starting.

Who pulls the permits?

Each permit is named in the work order with who applies for it. Permitted work does not start until the permit is issued.

How do you finish a job?

A walk-through, a written deficiency list with a deadline for each item, the inspections the permit requires, and a final account within 15 business days.
